This is my 1959 Morris Minor 1000 convertible. I purchased it during May 1997 for having some fun over the weekends. I bought my first Morris in 76. It was a 1962 Traveler and cost just $200! That notwithstanding I had it for 7 years and drove from the UK to Switzerland three times over the Swiss Alps. The Swiss Alps with
a 38 horse power car is a challenge!
The Morris Minor was first made in the fifties and continued in production through the early seventies. It was a popular low cost family car. Best of all though it has friendly styling. It's the kind of car that the district nurse or the Vet would drive.
The Morris Minor was made with great pride by the British Motor Company.
These are the key features of the Morris:
-
A 948cc 4 cylinder Engine
-
Hand crank starter. (to get you started when the battery is almost flat)
-
Rack and pinion steering. (very direct feel of the road)
-
No starter solenoid!
-
Four speed manual gearbox with no synchromesh on first! By the way the manual suggests a good speed to change up to fourth gear is 28MPH!
-
A friendly face
